The polka dot plant

The polka dot plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya) is a small, perennial herbaceous ornamental plant belonging to the Acanthaceae family. It grows to a height of 30-60 cm and is characterized by its slender stem and dense branches. It is often grown as a ground cover in gardens or as a houseplant.

It has oval or lanceolate leaves with smooth edges. The leaves are dark green with spots or variegation in pink, red, white, or silver, resembling hand-drawn dots. The leaves are 5-7 cm long, making it a popular decorative plant for gardens and homes.

Its small, tubular flowers are light purple or blue and appear in terminal clusters during the summer and autumn. However, they are not very noticeable compared to the beauty of the leaves, and it is often recommended to remove them to conserve the plant's energy.

Although it is considered a small plant, it can become a focal point due to its magnificent appearance.
